Yoga Instructor: Piriformis Syndrome

Case Study: Yoga instructor; piriformis syndrome
I love yoga. It's a major part of my life and I can't imagine living without it.
But that's exactly the prospect I was facing when I developed sciatica in my left buttock and leg over the course of a number of months.
Now, you'd think with all the stretching and exercise of yoga, I would be the last person to develop sciatica. That's certainly what I was thinking when I began to experience burning and tingling in my leg, starting in my buttock. I went to my primary care physician and his first diagnosis was sciatica.
I really didn't know much about this condition so I researched it extensively. I found that it's common for active people to develop it, and that it may not even be "sciatica" at all - but instead, piriformis syndrome.
There are a number of treatments for sciatica, ranging from stretching (which I was already doing) to fully invasive surgery. I wanted to find something alternative, but that would also be effective.
My research led me to Dr. Filler and Image Based Surgery Center in Santa Monica, California. I arranged for a consultation, and during this time Dr. Filler examined me and suggested we try an MR-guided injection to help alleviate and possibly end the pain in my buttock and leg.
I agreed, and we went ahead with the procedure. It was totally comfortable; I was on the scanning table under the MRI machine and Dr. Filler injected a series of medications directly at the point of the problem. I could feel the improvement almost immediately, and I have now returned to complete health and range of movement.
If you suffer from sciatica, I urge you to investigate piriformis syndrome and consider Image Based Surgery Center for your treatment. It worked for me.
